Frequently Asked Questions

What division will my child play in?
There is some overlap in the ages in the table below. The child's skill and experience levels should be a factor in determining which division is best for the child. For questions please contact the player agent of the appropriate divisions or review the Baseball Division Guidelines.
  • Tee Ball: 5-6 years old.
  • Minor Machine Pitch I Baseball: 6-8 years old.
  • Minor Machine Pitch II Baseball: 7-9 years old.
  • Minor Player Pitch II Baseball: 9-11 years old.
  • Major Baseball: 10-12 years old.
  • Junior Baseball: 13-14 years old.
  • Senior Baseball: 15-16 years old.

What age is my Child for Little League purposes?
The age of your child on April 30th of the current season determines his or her age.

Can my child play in a division outside of his or her age group?
It depends on your child's skill level and what he/she wants to play in. Please talk to the player agent for your division at registration.

What are the time commitments for Little League?
Most teams will practice between 1 and 3 times per week for between 1 and 2 hours. Games will start the first week of April and run through the second week of June. There will generally be 1 game per week on a weeknight starting at 5:00pm. There will generally be 1 game per week on Saturday and the time will vary.

What League should I register in?
Each league has boundaries. Altamont’s boundaries are as follows:
From Tramway and I-25 our boundary goes South along I-25 to San Mateo, South along San Mateo to Mcleod, East on Mcleod to San Pedro, South along San Pedro to Menaul, East along Menaul to Wyoming, North along Wyoming to Paseo Del Norte, West along Paseo Del Norte to Louisiana, North along Louisiana to Elena, East along Elena to Holbrook, South on Holbrook to San Antonio, East along San Antonio to Eubank, South along Eubank to Academy, East along Academy to the mountains at the National Forest boundary, North along the mountains to the Sandia Indian Reservation, West along the Sandia Indian Reservation to Tramway and I-25.

See our boundary map.

Why are the boundaries so strange?
Good question.

When is registration?
Registration is usually the last two Saturdays in January. Check the Calendar of events on this website for the dates this year.

How much is registration?
There are 3 fees for registration as follows:
  • Registration: $85 for first child, $55 for second, $40 for each additional child.
  • Refundable field workday fee: $40 per family.
  • Fundraiser, pick one of these three options:
    1. Take a box of candy, sell it and bring the money back to Altamont.
    2. Pay $60 for a box of candy, sell it and keep the money to replace the $60 you paid.
    3. Pay $40 and you don’t have to deal with the candy.

How do I get my $40 workday fee back?
Come out on our field workday; sign in; work for 2 hours; sign out and get your refund. See the Calendar of events for dates and times

What if I cannot afford the registration fee?
Altamont has a scholarship program whereby you take 4 boxes of candy per child, sell them, and bring the money back to Altamont. Under this program, all fees are waived but you will need to come and work for 2 hours on field workday.

I registered on-line. Now what?
Download the season handbook from our website and read through it. If you need to pick up a box of candy for the fundraiser, please do so at registration. If your child is in Minors (player pitch), Majors or Juniors, come to one of the tryouts (See Calendar of Events). Come out and work on field workday and get your $40 back (See Calendar of Events). You should hear from a coach no later than the end of February. Practices will start the first week of March.

My child has to try out. Is there a possibility he/she won’t make a team?
Tryouts are really “player evaluations”. Minors (player pitch), Majors & Juniors assign teams by way of a draft. Coaches will draft based on the kids’ performances at tryouts. However, everyone who attends tryouts will be drafted onto a team.
